Each part of the medical team fills a role that others can't fill. Often people think of billing and coding as one entity. In fact, medical billers handle the billing while medical coders use very detailed guidelines to choose the correct codes for each medical procedure and diagnosis. Those are two different careers. While you may find one person in a small office filling both of those roles, that isn't the case in hospitals and larger clinics. Each role is important. If done correctly, the medical office staff is paid properly for what they do. That is why you, as a medical coder, are an important part of the medical office team!

The Andrews School Medical Coding program includes training in ICD-10-CM/PCS classification systems as well as CPT and HCPCS.
